Test shots

I started of with wanting  space between the two but i felt it looked as if they lacked the chemistry i wanted on my photo cover so i changed the look half way through. I like the shadow effect as it was something that i liked about Viktor Vauthier's style of photography. the clothes they are wearing fit my theme and over all the style is similar to something i would like to adapt on my final cover.
However, i would like to add more head space and enhance the lighting to give them a fresher look

I think that republic of music would be an ideal label to be involved with my magazine as it is involved with a large variety of different musicians that fit into different genres including 'indie and alternative' which i will be focusing on in my magazine. As well as this, the company is well known internationally meaning that distribution wise my magazine would be successful and remain individual.

many successful magazines are already published by 'republic of music' such as the magazine 'Clash'.

they also have a blog which would help to promote my magazine and advertise it to the relevant people regarding my target audience and music genre.

language style

Magazines use different types if writing style and tone depending on their target audience's age or subculture for example. the language used by a magazine is altered or adapted through their use of tone, if the target audience is more mature a more formal tome would be used, In contrast, if the magazine is more suited to a younger audience, the language wont be as conscious of using slang words or adopting more of a relaxed tone. personally I like the tone used in i-D magazine or loud and quiet, as it is suited to a younger and more alternative audience in comparison to something like rollingstone magazine, Q or billboard. this could be partially due to that fact they are more well known and have been running for longer. i would like to adopt more of a casual tone as it would suit my genre more and also the language would be better suited to my audience as it is targeted at a younger generation.

Viktor Vauthier

Viktor Vauthier is one of my favourite photographers purely due to his simplicity and how he captures the expression of the models face. he is a relatively low profile photographer with only a small following however, he very underappreciated in my opinion. his photos are taken with film cameras which adds a clean and fresh effect to the images. I also like his use of shadows in some of his photos which I intend to attempt to replicate when creating my magazine as I think it helps to add depth to the photo which can therefore make it more interesting.

If I was to try and take photos inspired by his work, I think that the fresh faced look would be harder to achieve as that is very much dependent on the model used which in his case is a professional. despite this, his use of simple backgrouds could be easy for me to imitate, as this is what I have access to in terms of my magazine backdrop.

Magazine titles

These are titles of well known music magazines offering a wide variety of news surrounding music media. The titles all have one clear similarity as they are all either black and/or red. The choice of red is used as it stands out and black is a representative colour which is suited to any cover colour pallet or music genre they wish to use in the next issue.
